part-time for real

i work part-time and I have been out of school for the last 7 weeks. I love it.
I get to take much better care of my two people, we eat in more often and get buried in laundry less often.

This week i will work a little more but only because last week I worked a little less, twenty three hours to be exact.

I have lost six pounds since school ended. I walk almost every night now, two or three miles, and i count calories. When i started I wanted to lose fourteen pounds. I have eight pounds to go on that, as you can figure out i am sure, and i feel better already. My walks are really challenging and even these six pounds are making all my clothes sit better. I aim for 17oo calories a day, and i aim to burn 300 of them on my walks, give or take a bit everyday.

After all this time, i now feel pretty full after a 500 calorie meal. Today I had something new that was so yum. Do you have Trader Joe's by you? well, if you do, you should definitely try the Roasted Red Pepper soup (sold in a carton). I mixed a dollop of Fage (greek style Yogurt) in and some chives and it was really creamy tasting-- for about 120 calories a cup.

What are your favorite low-fat or low-calorie go-to foods? I really want to know!
I am trying to get used to the idea that i will have to be eating this way for the rest of my life.

Judah has been so much fun lately. I think this will probably be my favoritest year in his life. and it is already half-over. boo!

Chris continues to wait for news that suggests his whole life is meaningful and destined and on-track. That news is hard to wait for and hard to watch him wait for.

I wish i could be friends with you people in the Real World.

love.

Yay for losing weight! Esp. when you're meeting goals that you've set. I'm working on the same thing. Walking when I get the time, eating better, etc. Althgouh, I still don't have a scale so have no clue what I weigh. :) But my clothes feel a tad bit looser! So that must be good.

My mother was a nutritionist so I grew up eating healthy and it has continued throughout my life. My only problem area is too many carbs which I love, love, love but when I am counting I usually tend to increase the veggies, they fill you up and are so good (and good for you).

Way to go! I'm trying to walk more and continue with my pre-natal yoga. It's pretty hectic with the move and all, but given that I had to take the second test for gestational diabetes, I'm trying to be a little more serious about my health.

My favorite healthy low cal meal is a turkey wrap on a whole wheat tortilla. I usually put a little Havarti cheese on it with some low fat mayo. Yumo!

Oh, I forgot to say that I LOVE TJ's and will probably have withdrawl symptoms when we move. The closest one will be in Pittsburgh.

Also, I'll be close to you than ever! Maybe we can meet up sometime after Hayden is here.

I love Trader Joes!

Cheri and my deal are protein drinks. They kill your hunger and nourish your body and you can have one anywhere with not a bunch of fuss.

Aside from that, I also like these 'raw' bars that have 14 g of fiber in them. That's my on-the-go stuff that would be in the healthy category.

I'd like to have you as an IRL friend too! but i'm grateful to have you as a blog bud. I love the internets!

I'm so glad you are doing so well! I'm jealous of your weight loss... I know I'm supposed to be gaining while pregnant, but it doesn't make it any more fun. I'm looking forward to the numbers going down. Enjoy your part-time!

You are lookin' good, my friend!

I just tried a few things that I really like:

Nutrigrain waffles. They are $2 at target (way cheap), 2 waffles are: 140 cal. 2.5grams of fat and 3grams of fiber.

They aren't as good as regular waffles, but at 250 cal per serving of regular waffles, I wouldn't be eating waffles at all.

For the summer: The target brand sugar free ice cream sandwiches. They taste just like the ice cream sandwiches I used to buy from the ice cream truck as a kid. They are a good size. 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber. Good deal!

The chicken sausages at TJ's are great. The orange chicken is awesome and I think it's 250 calories per serving. Brian and I really like chili lime chicken burgers. They are only 120 calories per patty. We either add them to a big salad or put them on 100 calorie buns.

Last, but not least: For a really good ranch dressing, I buy the Hidden Valley Ranch mix in an envelope and I mix it with some fat free sour cream and a little bit of skim milk. It's really good and like 300 calories for an entire 15 oz container. Regular ranch is like 200 calories for 2 tbls.

Keep up the good work!
